An extraordinary art installation has surfaced in the heart of Washington: a throne featuring a gilded toilet, strategically positioned near the Lincoln Memorial, intended as a critique of American President Donald Trump. This novel display was brought to light by The Washington Post.
On the toilet paper holder, a roll is affixed bearing the inscription “Secret Handshake.” This is the moniker adopted by a collective of anonymous artists known for frequently producing similar provocative pieces throughout Washington. The project members state that their works incorporate elements of irony and levity, serving as coping mechanisms amid the country’s tense social climate. They underscore that their concepts frequently revolve around Trump’s persona as a “king,” allowing them to visually play upon established narratives and rhetoric.
Washington also recently hosted a demonstration aimed squarely at Trump’s policies. Protesters gathered along a roadway, brandishing signs that declared:
“No Kings”
“Stop Trump, Save Democracy”
“Trump is Unhinged”
“Abolish ICE Now”
“No More Wars of Choice”
