Consequently, the four-person crew was instructed to utilize temporary, foldable sanitary facilities while the primary system remains out of commission.
Earlier, the Artemis 2 crew encountered an unexpected domestic complication just one day into their flight: the Orion’s space toilet malfunctioned.
The Orion spacecraft for the Artemis 2 mission offered a view of Earth only partially illuminated by the Sun, making it resemble a crescent moon. During the ongoing Artemis II mission, a smoke event occurred onboard; however, space historian Alexander Zheleznyakov stated that the smoke posed no danger to the crew or the vehicle and would not have lasting effects. Furthermore, there was a temporary loss of communication.
NASA posted a new image on its official X social media account, captured from inside the Orion spacecraft. Over two days, NASA showcased the functionality of a new optical communication system that could prove vital for future voyages to the Moon and Mars.
