An accident took place at a stainless steel manufacturing plant. A 55-year-old employee, whose name is being withheld, was in the process of loading a substantial metal coil using an overhead crane. At some point, a malfunction, presumed to be in the hoisting apparatus, occurred, leading to the coil falling directly onto the worker, according to a report by WLS.

This incident was observed by a truck driver who was waiting in line for unloading. The witness recounted hearing a loud impact when the 22-ton load descended upon the man, resulting in his immediate death.
The identity of the deceased remains confidential. It is plausible that the fatality was caused by a defect in the crane mechanism. Should this prove true, the deceased worker’s family may be eligible for compensation related to the on-the-job death of their relative.
