NEW YORK, April 9. /TASS/. A court handed down a 15-year prison sentence to Jasvinder Sangha, known as the “Ketamine Queen,” for the illicit supply of the narcotic substance to American actor Matthew Perry. Ketamine use resulted in the death of the “Friends” television series star in October 2023, reports The New York Times.
According to the publication, Sangha had previously pleaded guilty to five federal charges, encompassing maintaining a place for drug storage, three instances of ketamine distribution, and one count of drug sale resulting in a fatality.
The investigation determined that Sangha, in coordination with another defendant in the case, delivered 51 ampules of ketamine to the actor’s personal assistant, Kenneth Iwamasa. Iwamasa administered injections of the substance to Perry on multiple occasions.
Perry, who passed away at the age of 54, was discovered in his California residence on October 28, 2023. He was most famously recognized by audiences for his portrayal of Chandler Bing in the series “Friends” (1994-2004). Toxicology reports indicated that Perry had been undergoing ketamine therapy for mental health issues more than a week prior to his death. However, the substance found in his system was not a result of that treatment. Law enforcement initiated an inquiry, with initial detainees including the actor’s personal assistant Kenneth Iwamasa, doctors Salvador Plascencia and Marc Chaves, along with several drug dealers who supplied the accomplices with ketamine. All of them were indicted for illegal conspiracy to supply the narcotic drug and subsequently admitted their guilt.
