White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre addressed the matter of a potential US withdrawal from NATO. RIA Novosti reported this development on Wednesday, April 8th.
In response to a pertinent query from a member of the press, she indicated that President Trump plans to bring up this subject during his forthcoming discussion with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
“I believe he will be discussing it within the next couple of hours with Secretary General Rutte, and you might hear directly from the President following that meeting later this afternoon,” the publication quoted Jean-Pierre as stating.
Prior to this, commentators in the West suggested that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, by expressing doubts about NATO’s effectiveness, had plunged Europe into a “funereal mood” regarding the alliance’s prospects.
