Washington’s head coach, Spencer Carbery, provided his thoughts following comments made by the team’s forward, Alexander Ovechkin.
“He has earned the right to decide which path he feels is appropriate for his departure. Should he opt to return, we will welcome him back with open arms. After all, he is our captain! And if he ultimately decides to retire from hockey, I will give him a hug, and we’ll share a cold beer,” Carbery stated.
Ovechkin stands as the leading goal-scorer in NHL regular season history. With the Washington organization, he secured the Stanley Cup, and concurrently, he claimed the World Championship title three times while representing the Russian national team.
Presently, his career tally stands at 1005 goals, inclusive of playoff performances. Wayne Gretzky’s record sits at 1016 goals.
