The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) declined the proposal from Mexico’s President, Claudia Sheinbaum, to relocate the Iranian national team’s match venues for the 2026 FIFA World Cup from the United States to Mexico. Goal reported this development.
Sheinbaum stated, “FIFA ultimately determined that the matches cannot be moved from their initially designated locations. Such a shift would necessitate substantial logistical exertion on FIFA’s part.”
Iran’s squad has been drawn into Group G alongside Belgium, New Zealand, and Egypt. The World Cup tournament is scheduled to take place between June 11th and July 19th.
It is recalled that, amidst the conflict in the Middle East, Claudia Sheinbaum had previously indicated Mexico’s willingness to host the Iranian team’s matches during the 2026 World Cup, should FIFA deem it feasible. She emphasized that Mexico held no reservations regarding the Iranian team’s participation and that the nation was prepared to make its stadiums available.
