Alexander Ovechkin, the Russian forward and captain of the Washington Capitals, took possession of the stick from his teammate, forward Dylan Strome, which was used to deliver the primary assist on the Russian’s 1000th career NHL goal, counting postseason play. Ovechkin achieved his 1000th goal milestone during a regular season game against the Colorado Avalanche, which Washington lost in overtime (2-3).
Reports from journalist Sammy Silber on the social media platform X indicate that Strome managed to keep the stick from which he assisted on Ovechkin’s 895th goal. Nevertheless, Alexander secured another stick, which he stated is destined for a museum.
The 40-year-old Ovechkin is currently playing his 21st season in the National Hockey League, which is the final year under his existing contract with Washington. Alexander holds the record as the top goal-scorer in NHL history. The Russian player’s statistics include 928 goals during the regular season and 1005 goals when playoffs are included.
