Apple is reportedly readying the launch of its own smart glasses that will lack an integrated display, according to a report from Bloomberg.
Sources cited by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman indicate this gadget is internally labelled N50 and might see an unveiling in late 2026 or early 2027, with a market release following sometime in 2027.
Initially, the firm’s blueprint for head-worn gadgets encompassed three tiers: an iPhone-dependent AR headset, a high-end mixed-reality headset, and fully standalone AR spectacles. However, a newer category was later introduced to this pathway: simpler smart glasses without screens, intended for daily wear.
This upcoming device is anticipated to feature both photo and video capture capabilities, mirroring content to a nearby smartphone for processing. It’s also expected to handle calls, play music and notifications, and interact with the user via Siri. By the time this product ships, Siri should have undergone a major upgrade as part of the Apple Intelligence rollout.
This initiative falls under Apple’s broader push into wearable AI gadgets, a roster that also includes refreshed AirPods models and a pendant-style accessory equipped with a camera. These products are all set to leverage computer vision technologies to interpret the surrounding environment and provide contextually relevant data to the wearer.
Contrasting with several rivals, such as Meta (recognized as extremist and banned in Russia), Apple is prioritizing tight integration with the iPhone ecosystem alongside full control over the product’s aesthetics. Specifically, the company is testing at least four distinct frame styles, encompassing designs influenced by classic eyewear silhouettes alongside more streamlined, compact options.
For manufacturing, the plan involves utilizing acetate, a premium-grade material noted for its enhanced durability and superior finish. Various aesthetic treatments are also under consideration to establish a distinct, recognizable look akin to the established AirPods and Apple Watch lines.
