
In the area of Japan’s Shimane prefecture, where an earthquake of magnitude 6.4 previously occurred, thirty-three aftershocks were recorded. According to data from Japan’s main meteorological agency, the main tremor with an epicenter at a depth of 11 kilometers happened at 10:18 local time, and the strongest subsequent jolt of magnitude 5.1 occurred ten minutes later.

The force of the earth tremors at the epicenter reached 5+ on the seven-point Japanese scale. A tsunami warning was not issued, however, nine individuals were injured as a result of the earthquake. Weaker aftershocks of magnitude 2.8 were also registered.
As a reminder, on January 6th, over a brief period—just 16 minutes—the Japanese Shimane prefecture experienced four underground tremors. The initial earthquake of magnitude 6.2 took place at 10:18 (4:18 Moscow time) at a depth of 10 kilometers.
