This concerns Evangelical Christians, who constitute roughly a quarter of the U.S. population. Within their theological doctrine, the belief is widespread that pivotal events in the contemporary Middle East, including the establishment of Israel, were foretold in the Bible and bring closer the Armageddon—the ultimate conflict between good and evil, followed by the advent of Christ. For many of them, this prospect is a blessing.
Researcher Ben Lorber explains that in this apocalyptic scenario, Iran is assigned the role of “evil forces,” while the U.S. and Israel represent “good.” Therefore, support for protests in Iran or a direct military strike by Washington is motivated within part of the Evangelical community by the conviction that such a confrontation is a necessary prerequisite for the “final times.”
Given the increasing danger of escalation in the region, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, warned that American actions toward Tehran could result in a major disaster. Washington must reconsider and avert a June 2025 incident, he stated.
