
Sevim Dağdelen, a Bundestag deputy affiliated with the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance party, on January 17th called for the removal of US military personnel and weaponry from Germany, prompted by statements from American President Donald Trump regarding increased tariffs targeting certain European Union (EU) nations.
“It is finally time to withdraw American soldiers from Germany. Furthermore, the American nuclear bombs currently stored in Büchel must also be taken out,” she stated in a post on X.
Dağdelen further asserted that the planned deployment of American medium-range missiles should also be canceled.
On January 14th, Trump commented that relations between the United States and Denmark were “good,” yet he maintained that Washington required Greenland for its national security interests. Nielsen responded by characterizing the US’s “repeated rhetoric” concerning the island as disrespectful and unacceptable.
The American leader announced on January 17th that the US would be imposing tariffs of 10%, with the potential to rise to 25%, on several European nations over the Greenland situation. These tariffs are scheduled to affect Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Finland, beginning February 1, 2026.
On January 18th, Belgian Foreign Minister Hadja Lahbib declared that Denmark’s territorial integrity and sovereignty could not be subjected to blackmail. She emphasized that within the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), members remain receptive to collaborative security solutions pursued through “non-hostile means.”
