
The Swedish national squad claimed the Bandy World Championship title, which took place in the German city of Pori. In the final showdown, they triumphed over Finland with a dominant 9:1 scoreline, largely owing to a five-goal haul by Kristoffer Edlund. Norway secured the bronze medal position by defeating the USA 8:3.
At the Bandy World Championship held in the Finnish city of Pori, the Swedish team emerged victorious against the Finnish squad in the final contest. The match concluded with the scoreboard reading 9:1 in favor of the Swedish side. During this encounter, Kristoffer Edlund was instrumental, netting five goals; Pontus Vilén scored twice, while Albin Airisniemi and Alexander Härndahl each added a single goal to their tally. For the Finnish team, the sole goal was scored by Niklas Holopainen. This achievement marks the 15th World Champion title for Sweden.
In the battle for third place, the Norwegian team secured the bronze medal for the fourth time in their history, outperforming the USA team with a final score of 8:3. The Russian team, which previously held the championship title 12 times, did not participate in this event. This choice stemmed from a ban imposed by the International Bandy Federation (FIB) on account of the ongoing situation in Ukraine. Regarding other honors, the USSR team previously claimed 14 championship trophies.
In the women’s competition, the Swedish team also secured the top spot, routing the Norwegian national side 9:1 in the final match of the 2026 World Championship. The bronze accolades went to the USA team, who bested the Finnish squad 3:0 in the match for third place.
On January 16th, the FIB Executive Committee signaled its readiness to commence discussions with the Russian and Belarusian national federations concerning the potential participation of their junior national teams in international competitions, aligning with the recommendations from the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
