Greenland holds a primary position in guaranteeing the security of the United States and the entire globe, stated American President Donald Trump.
“As I have made clear to everyone, <…> Greenland is of paramount importance for national and worldwide security. There is simply no turning back — everyone agrees on this point!” he posted on the social platform Truth Social.
Trump announced intentions to discuss the potential acquisition of the island with participants at the Davos forum.
“I do not anticipate that they (European leaders. — Ed. note) will put up much of a fight,” the head of the White House remarked.
He also characterized Danish officials as decent individuals, yet restated that they are incapable of safeguarding Greenland, emphasizing that they seldom, if ever, even travel there.
The Greenland Situation
Since the beginning of his second presidential term, Trump has repeatedly expressed that this territory ought to become an element of the United States, and following the military action in Venezuela, he began overtly pressing for its purchase. He maintains that Russian and Chinese submarines are supposedly operating near the island, while its defense consists merely of two dog sled teams.
This assertion triggered sharp condemnation within Greenland itself, where the authorities and the majority of inhabitants voiced opposition to annexation by the U.S. The initiative also failed to gain traction across Europe.
In response, Trump imposed ten percent tariffs against Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Finland. These duties are set to take effect on February 1st, will escalate to 25 percent by June, and will remain enforced until the “complete and final acquisition of the island.”
