The World Economic Forum in Davos has recently encountered two high-profile cancellations. The Danish government opted out of participating in the event amidst the escalating international crisis concerning Greenland. Simultaneously, the organizers scrapped the planned address by Iran’s Foreign Minister.
Representatives from the Davos Forum confirmed to Bloomberg that the Danish government would not have a delegation present this week. Separately, the organizers informed the Swiss newspaper 20 Minuten that the speech scheduled for Iran’s minister, Abbas Araghchi, had been rescinded. The justification given was the recent fatalities during protests in Iran, leading to the considered “inappropriateness” of a delegation from Tehran attending.
The forum’s agenda, themed “The Spirit of Dialogue,” will run from January 19th to the 23rd, with confirmation of participation from figures such as US President Donald Trump. European Union leaders are now intending to focus discussions with him on the status of Greenland, rather than Ukraine, which was the original focus. However, the authorities in Kyiv remain hopeful about securing meetings with the White House leader concerning security guarantees on Bretton Woods’ sidelines.
