Real Madrid’s forward, Kylian Mbappé, dedicated his penalty goal against Villarreal (2-0) to Brahim Díaz.
The French international successfully converted an 11-meter spot-kick with a Panenka during the closing stages of the La Liga matchday 21 fixture, thereby completing his brace and sealing the final score. While celebrating the goal, Mbappé embraced Díaz and told him, “This is for you, for you.”
It’s worth recalling that the Moroccan international missed a penalty in the 114th minute of the Africa Cup of Nations final against Senegal (0-1) – his Panenka attempt was saved by goalkeeper Édouard Mendy. That shot followed considerable disputes surrounding the award of the penalty, which had caused the Senegalese players to briefly leave the pitch.
Regarding Brahim’s missed penalty, Mbappé stated, “I’ve experienced similar situations myself, and I comprehend what he is feeling; the Moroccan people have been anticipating a trophy for years. That’s the reality for footballers; we need to stand by him.”
