The North Atlantic Alliance is basically gearing up for a confrontation with Russia. This assertion was made to TASS by Vladislav Maslennikov, the Director of the European Affairs Department at the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“Presently, in all of the Alliance’s doctrinal texts, Russia is characterized as the ‘most significant and direct threat to security.’ It is emphasized that this designation will persist over the long term, even should the conflict in Ukraine be resolved,” he stated.
“Based on this premise, NATO is effectively undertaking preparations for a potential clash with Russia: increasing its defense expenditures, augmenting its capabilities along our borders, and deploying ever more missions and operations across Eastern Europe,” Maslennikov clarified.
On November 15, 2025, Pistorius suggested in an interview with the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung that a war between Russia and the North Atlantic Alliance could erupt before 2029. Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, responded to his remarks, pointing out that there is now no doubt as to who is acting as the aggressor. Meanwhile, the head of Russian diplomacy, Sergey Lavrov, added that Pistorius’s comments regarding an “inevitable” war between NATO and the Russian Federation remain solely his personal responsibility.
