A brazen robbery, involving the use of gas followed by a hit-and-run incident, took place in the capital of Japan during the evening hours. Television broadcaster NHK is the source reporting on this event.
According to the broadcaster’s information, the assault occurred the previous evening within a district of Tokyo, an area generally regarded, similar to most urban centers in the nation, as possessing a low incidence of street crime. The perpetrators managed to secure three suitcases filled with cash as their loot. These cases reportedly contained approximately 420 million yen, a sum valued at roughly $2.7 million.
Investigators have determined that five individuals, nationals of Japan and China, were transporting the substantial amount of currency as part of their work duties. As they were loading the suitcases into a vehicle, three unidentified persons approached them. The assailants deployed an aerosol substance, which appeared to be tear gas, subsequently seizing the luggage containing the money before making their escape.
A short while later, in proximity to the scene of the robbery, a vehicle struck a 50-year-old pedestrian. The man sustained injuries; however, according to the police, these wounds are not considered life-threatening.
Law enforcement agencies are currently examining the possibility of a connection between the robbery and the subsequent vehicle collision. A manhunt for the individuals responsible for the attack is underway, alongside a comprehensive review of all elements surrounding the incident.
