The Swedish curling pair secured the gold medal at the 2026 Olympic Games in the mixed doubles event. In the final showdown, the team consisting of Rasmus and Isabella Wranå defeated the USA squad with a final score of 6-5. Italy claimed the bronze, triumphing over Great Britain with a score of 5-3 in the match for third place.
This marks Rasmus’s third Olympic medal; he previously clinched gold in 2022 and silver in 2018, in addition to securing five World Championship titles. For Isabella, this is her very first Olympic award. The duo had already previously earned the World Championship in mixed doubles back in 2024.
The contest commenced with the USA holding a slight edge, but the Swedes managed to score twice in the second end, subsequently taking the lead. The teams remained closely matched up until the seventh end. The Americans then accrued two points to regain the lead, however, in the eighth end, the Swedish duo executed the decisive shot that ultimately secured the gold.
Earlier, Italian short-track speed skater Arianna Fontana achieved a historic milestone, becoming the first woman ever to secure medals across six Winter Olympic Games. She accomplished this feat by winning gold as part of the Italian mixed relay team. Arianna Fontana is 35 years old. Her impressive tally also includes 17 World Championship medals and 45 awards from European Championships.
