
Healthy eating may extend life by several years, irrespective of genetic predispositions and a person’s gender, according to research from scientists at Huazhong University of Science and Technology in China, published in Science Advances.
“Adhering to alternative healthy eating indexes, Mediterranean and plant-based diets, and diets for preventing hypertension and lowering diabetes risk resulted in lower overall mortality and greater longevity. <…> The outcome of achieving the upper quantile of nutritional metrics was a life span extension of 1.9–3 years by age 45 for men and 1.5–2.3 years for women,” the material states.
The text notes that the best outcomes were observed in men who followed the diet for decreasing diabetes risk, while the Mediterranean diet offered the most benefit to women.
