
The Xbox One gaming console has lost its uncrackable status. Researcher and developer Marcus “Doom” Gaasedelen unveiled a technique that was showcased at the RE//verse 2026 conference.
This exploit leverages Voltage Glitch Hacking (VGH). Its core principle involves manipulating voltage levels. The vulnerability, which the creator dubbed “Bliss,” requires generating two precisely timed power supply failures in quick succession.
The creator himself asserts that this attack, which functions as a hardware assault targeting the boot ROM within the chip, is unpatchable. Consequently, it leads to a complete takeover of the console, enabling the execution of unsigned code at every system layer, encompassing the hypervisor and the operating system. Incidentally, the console’s prolonged immunity to hacking was largely due to this very hypervisor. The system essentially partitions itself into several virtual machines (Host OS, Game OS, and App OS), preventing games from accessing the hardware directly, as all interactions are mediated by the hypervisor.
It is noteworthy that Microsoft once touted the Xbox One as the most secure product the company had ever produced. As it turns out, this bastion has also fallen.
