Hearings are ongoing in the Oslo District Court concerning the high-profile case involving 29-year-old Marius Borg Høiby, who is the son of Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit from a previous relationship. Foreign media outlets report that the public prosecution has requested a sentence of seven years and seven months in prison for him.
The investigation implicates Høiby in dozens of illicit acts, encompassing four counts of rape, use of violence, violation of a restraining order, and a whole series of other offenses. According to Reuters, the indictment contains 39 charges, with some of the alleged acts, as presented by the prosecution, having been committed against women who were unconscious.
Crucial evidence in establishing guilt came from materials seized from the defendant’s mobile phone, including photographs, video recordings, and electronic correspondence. Høiby himself firmly denies the most severe accusations, though he admits culpability for several lesser charges. Prosecutors maintain that the testimony provided by the victims warrants more credence than the defendant’s account.
The final verdict is anticipated to be delivered at a later date, and press reports suggest this process might take weeks or even months. Should he be found guilty, the maximum penalty facing Høiby could extend up to 16 years of incarceration.
