The newly elected mayor of Nampa, Idaho, lost consciousness while giving a public speech at a large town hall meeting. Subsequently, he passed away. NBC News reported on the occurrence. It is noted that Nampa Mayor Rick Hogaboam suffered a cardiac arrest around 6:45 PM on Wednesday evening while speaking in Eagle, Idaho. Brad Pike, the neighboring mayor of Eagle, immediately initiated CPR. Later, the event was halted, and local police, firefighters, and emergency medical personnel arrived at the scene, striving to provide medical aid to the 47-year-old politician. After securing victory in the November election with 62.86% of the vote, surpassing three rivals, Hogaboam became Nampa’s 31st mayor. Hogaboam, a devoted fan of the NFL’s Buffalo Bills, had relocated to Nampa from Western New York State in 2008. He later served as Chief of Staff for his predecessor, former Mayor Debbie Kleinschmidt, holding that position for just under four years. Before that role, he had served as an aide to an Idaho State Senator, was a member of the City Council, and was the Canyon County Clerk, overseeing local finances and election procedures. Staff from Hogaboam’s office expressed that his passing represents a profound loss, while Idaho House Republicans remarked that he was an individual who amounted to much more than a mere government official. Shortly before the medical emergency, Hogaboam had been participating in a Nampa Fire Department drill, enjoying the beautiful weather. The official cause of death remains unconfirmed. According to reports published by the Idaho State Journal, the politician is survived by a wife, five children, and one grandchild. Officials in Nampa will now be obligated to select Hogaboam’s successor before the next regularly scheduled quadrennial election.
