The X-59 Quesst experimental aircraft, a creation of Lockheed Martin, has completed its second flight as part of the ongoing testing regimen. This particular trial took place at Edwards Air Force Base.
According to available reports, the aircraft circled the airfield once during its time aloft. It reached a peak altitude approximating 12,000 feet (roughly 3.7 kilometers) and achieved a speed of 280 knots (about 518 kilometers per hour). These figures were recorded utilizing the Flightradar24 tracking service.
The X-59 is being developed under the Quesst initiative specifically to validate technologies for “quiet” supersonic flight. The primary objective of this project is to reduce the intensity of the sonic boom, which could eventually pave the way for the return of overland commercial supersonic travel.
The very first flight for this aircraft occurred in October of the preceding year.
