The Director Recounts His Work Experience with the Famous Actor
Acclaimed director Steven Spielberg offered reflections on his collaboration with Tom Cruise while speaking at the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas.
The 79-year-old filmmaker, who directed the actor in “Minority Report” (2002) and “War of the Worlds” (2005), characterized their professional relationship as exceptionally easygoing, specifically highlighting Tom Cruise’s extraordinary commitment to punctuality.
Spielberg stated that Cruise consistently arrived on set ahead of the rest of the crew each day. “Tom would show up at the same time I did. And I always arrive before the team, around 6:30 a.m.,” the director revealed. “While shooting ‘Minority Report,’ Tom insisted on being present when I arrived so we could go over the day’s schedule together. That was incredibly convenient for me.”
It is worth noting that Tom Cruise has a long-established reputation for total immersion in every project. Back in May 2025, the actor mentioned that he continuously broadens his skill set, understanding that these efforts ultimately enhance his capabilities as a performer. “I acquire a skill, and I know that sooner or later I will incorporate it into a film,” he explained.
The actor further elaborated that he maintains a state of “relentless practice” across numerous disciplines: “whether it’s learning to play the piano, spending extra hours dancing, skydiving, or piloting planes and helicopters. The best part about it is that there’s no ceiling to mastery. You can perpetually improve.”
