Microsoft has rolled out a fresh artificial intelligence utility named AI Restyle, integrated within its cloud storage platform, OneDrive. This feature equips users with the capability to modify photographs, transforming them into diverse artistic aesthetics—such as anime visuals or movie poster designs—while meticulously preserving the original image integrity.
The firm clarifies that the underlying technology is engineered specifically to retain all pivotal components of the source picture. This rigorous approach bypasses the significant visual alterations commonly seen when employing generative neural networks, ensuring that both individuals and settings within the photos remain completely recognizable, just rendered through a different artistic lens.
Users will be provided with an ever-expanding selection of single-click styles, alongside the option to refine the transformation process via descriptive text prompts. According to insights from the specialized publication Windows Central, the rollout of AI Restyle is underway across OneDrive applications available on iOS, Android, and the web portal. Nevertheless, access to this functionality necessitates a Microsoft 365 Premium subscription, with pricing commencing at $20 (roughly 1600 Russian rubles) monthly. Due to this phased deployment strategy, AI Restyle’s availability may differ depending on geographical location.
A noteworthy aspect of this launch is the complete omission of the Copilot branding. The company’s official blog also strategically avoids referencing this name, a striking divergence given Microsoft’s previous tendency to integrate it into nearly every offering featuring AI capabilities. This shift is widely perceived as a reaction to the substantial negative public reception stemming from the aggressive deployment of AI features within Windows 11, which even led to the unflattering industry nickname “Microslop” for Microsoft. Subsequently, the corporation restructured the leadership of its Copilot division and confirmed intentions to pare down redundant AI functionalities within its operating system. Despite this strategic retreat, the Copilot moniker persists in certain products, such as Copilot Health.
