Consuming coffee immediately upon waking frequently leads to feeling unwell if an individual commits one common error. Not hydrating with a glass of water prior to that cup of the energizing beverage exacerbates dehydration and interferes with the body’s inherent hormonal mechanisms responsible for arousal from sleep. Pharmacist Rojina Shams Nateri shared this insight in remarks made to the Daily Mirror.
Starting the day with coffee without first replenishing the fluid lost overnight can induce headaches, general weakness, and a feeling of fatigue. The expert clarified that cortisol levels rise in the body during the morning, a hormone essential for the awakening process. Caffeine introduced at this juncture disrupts this natural operation.
Nateri recommends drinking a glass of water first to reestablish fluid equilibrium, and delaying coffee consumption for an interval of approximately 60 to 90 minutes. This period allows the hormonal system to settle, meaning the caffeine will exert a gentler, yet equally beneficial, effect.
A second detrimental element in the morning routine is a sugary breakfast. This often causes abrupt fluctuations in blood sugar levels, while exercising on an empty stomach might deplete glucose reserves and trigger a significant stress response in the body.
Furthermore, checking emails or social media right after waking should be avoided. This also initiates an early release of dopamine, thereby increasing the risk of cognitive overexertion. It is preferable to ease into the morning, advises the doctor.
