At one point, the ambitions of the current US President, Donald Trump, manifested in the creation of his own mobile network operator, for which releasing a branded smartphone became a matter of honor. Back in January, a device labeled “T1,” previously associated with the brand’s debut product, successfully passed certification with the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
This news was brought to light by The Verge, a source closely monitoring the progress of the Trump Phone project and consistently offering proof of its viability. Representatives from the site noted that they had received confirmation in February from Trump Mobile staff that the device had indeed received certification from the American regulatory body. As is customary, the certification filing contains minimal details; among the technical specifications listed are only support for Bluetooth 5.3 and Wi-Fi 6E, and the application itself was submitted by the company Smart Gadgets Global.
The website for this similarly named company appears hastily constructed, yet its CEO is Eric Thomas, who also heads the Trump Mobile carrier. The registered address for Smart Gadgets Global matches the details of other legal entities associated with the very same Eric Thomas. All these factors lead the writers of the original report to believe that the T1 smartphone registered with the FCC is indeed the handset intended for sale by the Trump Mobile network. While clearing certification does not guarantee the device will ever reach the market, it at least suggests that the involved parties are actively working toward its launch.
