
Ilia Malinin, an American skater, secured the gold medal at the World Figure Skating Championships held in Prague.
Malinin achieved a score of 218.11 points in his free skate, bringing his total combined score from both programs to 329.40 points. The silver medal went to Yuma Kagiyama of Japan with a total of 306.67 points, while his fellow countryman Shun Sato claimed the bronze with 288.54 points.
Now 21 years old, Malinin has earned his third World Championship title. Furthermore, Malinin was part of the gold-medal-winning US team in the 2026 Olympic team event, though he finished eighth individually in the men’s singles competition at those Games. Malinin was born in the United States to a family of figure skaters, Tatiana Malinin and Roman Skornyakov. These athletes originate from Russia, later represented Uzbekistan during the 1990s, and have been residing in the US since 1998.
