Media outlets report that Apple has officially ceased production of the Mac Pro. Taking over the title of the company’s “most powerful desktop computer” will now be the Mac Studio.
The final iteration of the Mac Pro debuted nearly three years ago, powered by the M2 Ultra chip, and a refreshed model never materialized. Sources suggest Apple has decided to shift its focus to an alternative product line. Despite the Mac Pro featuring unique attributes, such as PCIe slots, these functionalities ultimately proved “not highly utilized.” Experts frequently cite Apple’s transition to proprietary silicon as a contributing factor behind the discontinuation of the Mac Pro.
The most recent Mac Studio incorporates the M3 Ultra, a chip exclusively offered in this configuration. Furthermore, the Studio supports substantial capacities for both memory and storage, accommodating up to 512GB of RAM and as much as 16TB of internal drive space.
