Fans of the “Avatar” universe will have to postpone their visit to the magical world of Pandora until 2029.
Disney has disclosed the lineup of their upcoming project releases spanning from 2026 through 2029. Tucked right at the very end of this schedule is the fourth installment in the “Avatar” saga, slated for debut on December 21, 2029.
Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Oona Chaplin, and other prominent actors from the initial narrative are set to reprise their roles. Furthermore, Michelle Yeoh (“Everything Everywhere All at Once”) joins the ensemble, portraying the character Doctor Karina Mogue. James Cameron will, without question, once again take the helm as the director.
It’s worth noting that he had previously indicated the continuation of the franchise hinged upon how audiences reacted to “Avatar: Fire and Ash,” which premiered in 2025 and notably secured an Academy Award for “Best Visual Effects.” Moreover, this installment amassed an international gross of $100.4 million within its initial three days, escalating to $1.4 billion by the start of 2026.
As a reminder, the inaugural “Avatar” film arrived in 2009, serving as a breath of fresh air for the film industry at that time—introducing a novel world, an original language, immersive musical scoring, and intricate characters. A critical component of this immense success was also the groundbreaking visual experience, which incorporated previously unseen motion-capture technologies.
