Google has commenced rolling out a novel account management capability that empowers users to modify their email address name without any loss of existing data. Currently, this feature is being piloted with a select group of users residing in the United States, according to a report by Android Authority.
It is important to note that altering the primary email address does not carry over any impact to the account’s contents: all correspondence, personalized settings, and interconnected services remain intact. Moreover, the former email address is automatically retired to an alternate status, ensuring that any messages sent to the old address will still successfully reach the user.
The feature comes with specific constraints: the modification of the address name is permissible only once within a twelve-month period, and a maximum of three times throughout the entire lifespan of the account. The adjustment process is executed via the profile settings, navigated through the “Personal info” section and the dedicated subsection for managing email addresses.
This enhancement is specifically targeted at individuals who established their email addresses with informal naming conventions long ago and now encounter difficulties when utilizing these addresses in professional or business correspondence. The timeline for when this update will be rolled out to users in other countries has not yet been specified.
