A resident of Bachu County in Xinjiang, driven to the brink of desperation in her quest to uncover her husband’s infidelity, resorted to an extreme stunt. Under the cover of night, she secretly attached herself to his truck and traveled several kilometers until she was spotted by law enforcement officers.
Late in March, a patrol unit on a highway in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region observed a highly unusual sight: a woman tethered by a rope to the rear bed of a small truck. The inspectors immediately pulled the vehicle over. To the driver’s utter astonishment, he discovered that the “trailer” attached to his truck was, in fact, his own wife.
It turned out that the woman harbored intense suspicions about his fidelity and decided to shadow her husband’s route in the most literal way possible—by physically fastening herself to his vehicle. Fortunately, she emerged unharmed, though a nighttime journey exposed to the cold wind and bumpy road surfaces could hardly have been pleasant.
The police opted not to fine the distraught jealous wife, instead issuing a directive to her husband. The official basis for this action was the regulation that mandates drivers confirm the technical integrity of their vehicle and ensure no extraneous objects or persons are attached before setting off.
The man will incur a fine of 200 yuan (approximately 2.6 thousand rubles) and have three points deducted from his annual 12-point rating. Eyewitnesses reported that the driver himself was somewhat shell-shocked, claiming he had no idea his spouse had been dangling from the back of his truck the entire time.
Such instances of jealousy taken to absurd extremes are not uncommon in China. Last year, another woman affixed a magnetic GPS tracker to her husband’s car, and one man even hired a private investigator equipped with a drone. However, this nighttime “ride while tethered” rapidly became a viral sensation across local social media platforms.
Netizens are sharply divided: some laud the act as heroic desperation, while others condemn it as dangerous lunacy. In the end, the incident concluded relatively favorably: no fatalities occurred, the marriage seemingly survived, and the police simply advised the couple to resolve domestic issues without resorting to perilous thrills.
