The Washington Capitals disseminated a video via the X social network to commemorate the milestone achieved by their captain, Alexander Ovechkin, regarding goals tallied in National Hockey League (NHL) regular season play.
On April 6, 2025, Ovechkin netted his 895th goal, thereby surpassing the Canadian legend Wayne Gretzky in the ranking for the most goals ever scored across NHL regular seasons. This achievement occurred during the second period of an away game against the New York Islanders. The 40-year-old Russian athlete now boasts 928 career goals spread across 1,569 regular-season contests.
“A year ago, the chase concluded,” accompanied the post from Washington, which showcased footage of the Russian player preparing on the day of the Islanders match, his successful shot, and his reaction in the locker room following the game.
Ovechkin has been a member of the Washington organization since 2005, securing the Stanley Cup alongside the team in 2018.
