Warner Bros. unveiled a forthcoming feature film set within the “Game of Thrones” universe at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, provisionally titled “Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest.” According to Variety, this title is temporary, and the producers reserve the right to make alterations later.
This movie draws its source material from the established “Game of Thrones” television series, which itself is adapted from George R.R. Martin’s book cycle, “A Song of Ice and Fire.” Aegon, the figure central to the new film, is the progenitor of House Targaryen and has not previously been featured in the television adaptations.
Beau Willimon, known for his work on “House of Cards,” is handling the screenplay duties for this production. Initial reports regarding the development of a full-length feature film set in the “Game of Thrones” world first surfaced in March 2025. The creative team projects a release date no sooner than 2027.
HBO debuted the series “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight” in the winter of 2026, a show that has been characterized as the most accessible project within George Martin’s lore. This series’ narrative unfolds ninety years prior to the events depicted in “Game of Thrones,” and seventy-two years subsequent to the timeline covered in “House of the Dragon.”
