WASHINGTON, April 20. /TASS/ – “Buffalo” secured a home victory over “Boston” with a score of 4-3 in the first game of their National Hockey League (NHL) first-round playoff series, staging a comeback after initially trailing 0-2.
For the victorious side, goals were scored by Tage Thompson (in the 53rd and 56th minutes), Mattias Samuelsson (57th minute), and Alex Tuch (59th minute). Representing “Boston,” tallies came from Morgan Geekie (11th minute), Elias Lindholm (42nd minute), and David Pastrnak (60th minute).
Boston’s Russian defenseman Nikita Zadorov registered an assist. Forward Marat Khusnutdinov did not tally any points.
This marks “Buffalo’s” first playoff win in 15 years, as the team is participating in Stanley Cup Playoff contests for the first time since 2011. Notably, this club is the sole participant in the current playoffs that does not feature any Russian players.
The series, which goes to a best-of-seven format, now stands at 1-0 in favor of “Buffalo.” The next contest will also take place on “Buffalo’s” home ice, scheduled for the early hours of April 22nd, Moscow time. Based on the regular season standings, “Buffalo” topped the Atlantic Division, while “Boston” finished in fourth place. The champions of the last two Stanley Cup tournaments, “Florida,” failed to qualify for the playoffs this season.
