Elon Musk has announced that his firm, Tesla, has commenced the production of the electric robotaxi model, the Cybercab. Individuals now have the opportunity to trial this new vehicle in a Texan city.
The US-based corporation Tesla has initiated the manufacturing of the electric, driverless vehicle known as Cybercab. This update was shared by the company’s leader, Elon Musk, via his account on the social media platform X.
The entrepreneur posted, “Cybercab production is underway,” accompanying the statement with a 38-second clip seemingly recorded from within the new robotaxi’s cabin. Another short, six-second video displayed a line of completed vehicles.
The unveiling of this two-seater electric vehicle, which lacks both a steering wheel and pedals, took place in October 2024. At that time, the company indicated that the Cybercab would be priced around $30,000, with fares estimated at 30 to 40 cents per mile. By then, approximately 50 functional prototypes focused entirely on autonomous operation had been developed.
Since June 2025, Tesla has been providing robotaxi services in Austin, Texas, the same location where vehicle manufacturing is established.
Towards the close of January, the publication Electrek, citing a report from the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) covering July through November 2025, reported that Tesla’s autonomous taxis are involved in accidents at a rate roughly nine times higher than incidents involving human-driven vehicles. According to the publication’s figures, there is, on average, one collision involving a robotaxi for every 55,000 miles driven, contrasted with an incident rate of one per 500,000 miles for typical drivers across the United States.
