Researchers at the International Physics Center in Donostia, Spain, have determined when the apocalypse will occur. The Daily Mail reported on this on April 29th.
The investigators stated that the end of the world will arrive 33.3 billion years following the Big Bang. Considering the Universe is currently around 13.8 billion years old, this means approximately 19.5 billion years remain until that final moment.
The scientists hypothesize that the demise of the world could result from a “big crunch.” This theory posits that the ongoing expansion of the Universe might eventually cease and reverse course. Should this happen, all celestial bodies would progressively draw nearer to one another until they crush each other.
“It is quite plausible that the Universe will ultimately evolve into colossal black holes,” the publication noted.
The study’s authors further mentioned that the Universe faces two potential final states: it will either maintain its expansion or collapse back into an intense ball of fire.
