The deceased mammal measures approximately 5 meters in length.
Near Mikoszewo, within a Polish nature reserve’s coastline, the carcass of a whale, around five meters long, was discovered, as reported by RIA “Novosti,” referencing the RMF FM radio station.
According to available information, the animal had already begun to decompose when it washed up on the shore of the Baltic Sea. It is presumed to be one of the baleen whales that feed on plankton. Such whales are not permanent residents of the Baltic Sea and may enter it accidentally via the Danish Straits. The exact species is slated to be determined through DNA analysis.
To mitigate potential harm to the ecosystem, experts plan to remove the remains from the sea side. The area of the nature reserve is temporarily inaccessible to the public.
