The initial official overseas trip undertaken by the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, following her cancer recovery has sparked considerable attention in the Italian city of Reggio Emilia, as reported by the Independent.
Middleton arrived in the city intending to gain insight into the local strategies concerning early childhood development. Her itinerary included a visit to an Early Childhood Centre connected to her Royal Foundation, where she was briefed on cutting-edge teaching techniques for very young children.
At the Town Hall, Kate was greeted by the Mayor of Reggio Emilia, Marco Massari. Hundreds of residents watched her appearance in Piazza Prampolini; some brought Union Jacks, while others observed the proceedings from balconies, transforming the formal reception into something akin to a city-wide spectacle.
The Princess offered a wave to the crowd, engaged with children near the entrance, and held discussions with the city’s head. Judging by the public’s response, the Princess’s resumption of international engagements proved to be a significant occasion, not just for the royal schedule, but for the entire city.
Kate’s last official journey outside the United Kingdom occurred prior to receiving her serious diagnosis—specifically in December 2022. At that time, she accompanied Prince William to Boston for the Earthshot Prize environmental awards ceremony. Any brief excursions made since then have not been classified as full-fledged official foreign visits. During her battle with cancer, her weight reportedly dropped to a critical 41 kilograms.
