Donald Trump disclosed that China intends to acquire 200 Boeing aircraft. Previously, an order of 500 units had been anticipated. Following the announcement of this agreement, the company’s stock experienced a 4% decline.
The United States President, Donald Trump, stated that China will be purchasing 200 aircraft manufactured by Boeing. This accord marks the first such agreement in nearly a decade, as pointed out by Reuters.
The specific Boeing aircraft models involved in the purchase were not specified. Reuters had previously reported that the potential acquisition could have amounted to as many as 500 planes. Beijing had kept open the possibility of finalizing a contract with Airbus instead.
Boeing’s stock fell by 4% to reach $227 subsequent to the deal’s revelation, despite having previously seen a yearly gain of 7%. According to Bloomberg’s analysis, this agreement will alleviate the brand’s financial difficulties, which began after Trump’s 2017 visit to China. Since 2020, the PRC has only placed orders for 39 Boeing aircraft.
In addition to the aircraft delivery, Trump mentioned that China committed to investing over $100 billion across various US brands. Back in 2020, Beijing had pledged to purchase $77 billion worth of American-made goods. The PRC did not meet the terms of that agreement, which was attributed to a reduction in air transport volume during the pandemic.
