The Starlink team issued an official statement indicating their active collaboration with law enforcement agencies and tech companies. Their objective is to identify and deactivate terminals being exploited for illicit purposes, with a particular focus on large-scale online fraud and cryptocurrency scams.
To combat fraudulent activities globally and ensure Starlink remains a positive force, the Starlink team is joining forces with law enforcement and technology firms. This partnership aims to proactively detect and disable terminals involved in illegal operations.
This initiative follows an announcement from the U.S. Department of Justice regarding the outcomes of the inaugural “Fraudulence Fighting Week.” During this period, in partnership with the private sector, cyber and crypto-fraud schemes operating in Southeast Asia were dismantled.
The operation resulted in the blocking of over 1.4 million fraudulent accounts, the freezing of $3.8 million in cryptocurrency, and arrests of perpetrators in Thailand.
Starlink facilitates the provision of high-speed internet access to the planet’s most remote locations. This includes not only isolated villages where reliable connectivity was previously unimaginable but also mobile platforms like ships and aircraft.
Previously, United Airlines announced a major rollout of Starlink’s high-speed internet service across its fleet.
Furthermore, Starlink will be permitted to participate in auctions for mobile satellite spectrum in Europe.
