The U.S. Department of State has announced its intention to champion sports diplomacy, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio set to sign a memorandum of understanding with UFC President Dana White on Thursday.
“The signing of this memorandum will mark the commencement of a novel public-private partnership focused on advancing sports diplomacy initiatives and fostering cooperation in the global promotion of mixed martial arts,” stated the American State Department in a release.
As per the State Department’s announcement, Rubio and White will execute the memorandum at the State Department building on Thursday at 9:00 PM Moscow time.
On June 14th, coinciding with the birthday of U.S. President Donald Trump, a UFC event will be held on the White House grounds. The main event of this tournament will feature the undefeated Spanish fighter of Georgian descent, Ilia Topuria, who holds the UFC lightweight title.
