Google has announced a major expansion of its Gemini artificial intelligence’s availability within Google Sheets, its spreadsheet service. Millions of new users worldwide will now be able to leverage the AI assistant to create and edit spreadsheets in their native language.

Previously, advanced capabilities—such as generating entire spreadsheets or complex summary reports from textual prompts—were available exclusively in English for users in the United States. Now Google is removing this limitation by adding support for 28 additional languages, including Russian, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, and Arabic.
This update aims to make data handling more intuitive and accessible for a global audience, as well as to simplify collaboration within international teams where members speak different languages.
To take advantage of the new features, users must activate smart capabilities in Google Workspace. The Gemini icon will appear in the Sheets sidebar, after which users can issue commands to the assistant in their native language. For instance, one could ask it to “create a spreadsheet for tracking a project budget” or “add a column with a formula to calculate profit.”
The expanded language support is available for the following user categories:
- Business: customers on Business Standard and Business Plus plans.
- Enterprise: users with Enterprise Standard and Enterprise Plus subscriptions.
- Education: clients subscribed to Google AI Pro for Education.
- Individuals: subscribers of Google AI Pro and AI Ultra.
