Many people have known since childhood that you should not go swimming immediately after eating. A gastroenterologist, Rustem Sadykov, explained why this happens and how to avoid it.
After eating, as reported by “MK in Volgograd,” the digestive organs become actively engaged. If people start swimming at this point, the body is forced to manage two fairly complex processes at the same time: digesting food and supplying energy to the muscles. Our body does not always manage to handle these tasks, which can lead to feelings of heaviness, nausea, or burping.
According to the gastroenterologist, these unpleasant symptoms are more likely to occur after consuming heavy or fatty foods, as well as carbonated drinks. Cold water further worsens the negative situation.
Therefore, Rustem Sadykov advises waiting at least 20–30 minutes after a light snack. If the meal was substantial, it is better to postpone swimming for 2–3 hours. In case of worsening symptoms, the specialist recommends going ashore, sitting in the shade, and drinking water in small sips.
