The score was opened late in the first half by American forward Folarin Balogun, who received a straight red card in the 64th minute. He stepped on the ankle of Tarik Muharemović from behind. The Americans managed to score while a man down—Malik Tillman found the net from a free kick.
The U.S. advanced to the quarterfinals, where they will face Belgium, who previously beat Senegal (3:2). The match will take place on July 7.
