According to a report from 9to5Google, starting July 6, 2026, Samsung Messages—the company’s proprietary messaging app previously pre-installed on all its devices—will be forcibly replaced by Google Messages on devices running Android 14 and newer operating system versions.
On smartphones with Android 12 and Android 13, the application will simply cease to function.
However, the sole exception will be older phones operating on Android 11, where Samsung Messages will continue to work.
Nevertheless, experts believe the service’s demise was already predetermined back in 2022. That was the year Google Messages became the default messaging application.
