Samsung’s mobile division, MX, primarily responsible for smartphone production, appears to have posted a quarterly loss for the first time in its history. At least, that’s what analysts at Meritz Securities are claiming.
They note that for the second quarter, which has already ended but hasn’t yet been reported on by Samsung, the MX unit is expected to record a loss of approximately 1 trillion won. That’s roughly 740 million dollars. And this would mark the first quarter in the company’s history where the smartphone division operates at a loss.
Additionally, losses are anticipated for the network division and the home appliance division. However, the success of the semiconductor business will still make Samsung highly profitable overall. Its operating profit is projected to be around 112 trillion won.
