Japanese climbers had to be rescued from a mountain by helicopter after encountering a bear. This was reported by the UHB television channel.
The incident occurred on July 4 in Japan’s Hokkaido province. A group of four climbers came across the predator while descending Mount Tomuraushi. The hikers spotted the bear at a distance of about 50 meters — the animal was blocking their path at an altitude of 1,700 meters.
Although the beast eventually disappeared from sight, the climbers were too afraid to continue their descent. A helicopter was called to the mountain, which evacuated the group. Police noted that the climbers were insufficiently prepared, as they carried only bells and whistles instead of specialized bear repellent spray.
