
The startup Tornyol Systems has demonstrated how its 40-gram micro-drone intercepts a flying insect. In the released video, the drone captures a moth, showcasing its potential for combating mosquitoes—carriers of dangerous diseases.
The device utilizes the LeSonar2 phased-array sonar, 380 microphones, automotive parking sensors, and an Artix-7 FPGA chip. This enables it to generate a 3D map of the surrounding space and pinpoint the location of insects with an accuracy of 0.1 millimeters. The drone is trained to distinguish the sound of mosquito wings and track them at distances of up to 8 meters.
